The size of the weights should be just enough to get the bait to the bottom. Of course, this carp fishing method has 2 major disadvantages. I will have to try carp rods and see how well I can manage it. This is where Fishing for carp gets interesting. Seriously though, check into Carp rods. Perhaps I may be headed up the right road toward this. But you could well try using safe back-stops or utilising flying back leads strategically to alter the usual tensions on your line; not giving enough pressure for a fulcrum effect, but enough to initially hook fish a little deeper, or at least show some line indication of a bite occurring for instance.
